The meeting of the Prime Minister with representatives of more than 1,500 overseas Vietnamese (OV) from about 30 countries and territories took place in an atmosphere of intimacy, joy and coziness.
This afternoon, at the Government headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with the overseas Vietnamese delegation attending in the “Xuan Que Huong” (Spring in Homeland) program.
At the meeting, one of Ministry of Foreign Affairs’s leaders said that the community of OV community was constantly growing both in quantity and quality, with about 4.5 million OV in more than 110 countries and territories, of which more than 500,000 people have university degrees or higher, many are leading engineers and experts in the fields of science, technology, economics, finance and some have participated in the political system of the country. There are more than 1,500 OV from about 30 countries and territories joining the Homeland Spring 2020 Program, which has the largest number of participants ever.
OV Nguyen Duy Chung, President of the General Association of Vietnamese in Laos expressed his pleasure when being invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to attend the Homeland Spring program. Mr. Nguyen Duy Chung was so excited with the country’s great achievements over the past years and said the General Association had regularly encouraged OV of the Vietnamese community in Laos to preserve cultural identity towards their homeland.
OV Nguyen Viet Trieu, member of the Vietnamese Association in Europe, Vice President of the Vietnamese Association in Poland shared that each time coming back to Vietnam, he could see dramatic change of the country, development of the economy and significant improvement of people’s living. Mrs. Trieu said that OV in Poland always preserved their cultural identity, supported the disadvantaged and patients in the country.
She hoped the Government would pay more attention to teaching Vietnamese to OV children in other countries; periodically appeal to young scientists and intellectuals of the second generation for the return to the country to develop their homeland.
OV Tran Ngo Duc Tho in the US, a post-graduate in urban planning, General Secretary of the Vietnamese Youth and Student Association in the US said that the Association always has activities to promote Vietnamese culture, help young people to grow and organize global start-up contests in order to create successful start-ups …
Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of our Party and Government Leaders, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his pleasure to welcome OV to visit the Homeland and said that this event proved the deep feelings of Vietnamese people in every Tet or Spring occasion. He was glad to share in the overseas business trips, he always received the warm welcome of the local OV, the Prime Minister insisted that our Party and Government Leaders always cared about OV.
Highly appreciated OV to deeply integrate into daily life, and contribute to the development of host countries, the Prime Minister also said that through the meetings, Government Leaders of the host countries always praised and highly evaluated OV communities as hard-working and law-obedient people, some countries considered the Vietnamese community as an ethnic minority. Many people are very successful and highly qualified. The Prime Minister highly appreciated the connection and engagement of the OV to the Homeland; the affection, solidarity and support each other in faraway countries with many exciting and practical activities.
The Prime Minister was particularly impressed by the cultural identity preservation of the OV, including preservation of Vietnamese language, costumes, cuisine, folk arts, etc., thereby contributing to promote Vietnamese culture to foreign countries.
Glad that OV much cared about teaching Vietnamese to their children, the Prime Minister also highly appreciated their performance on many commercial activities and consumption of Vietnamese goods abroad and insisted that high trade turnover of Vietnam over the last year was partly due to the important contribution of the OV.
Informing OV about the country’s socio-economic situation with great achievements and strong development steps in many fields and increasing position of Vietnam in the world, the Prime Minister reckoned that, remittances of OV had a great value in supporting the country’s economic development. Vietnam is also one of the 10 largest countries receiving remittances in the world.
Specialists and intellectuals of OV increasingly directly accompanied with our country in many programs and projects in order to realize the goal of building a constructive Government, sustainable developing economy. The OV intellectuals always had an important contribution to country construction and development. Our Party and Government always appreciated the positive contributions of the OV.
Talking about the difficulties and challenges that the Vietnamese economy had to overcome, the Prime Minister expected the OV to uphold solidarity, support and mutual affection to stabilize living in the home countries, regardless of origin, ethnic, religion, region, gender, and culture.
Moreover, OV should also continue to integrate, become good citizens and make contributions to the home countries primarily for the benefit of the OV, of the home countries as well as for the sake of the nation.
Besides, the Prime Minister wanted OV to maintain the solidarity together with our Party and Government as well as fellow-citizens to contribute intelligence to make the country become more developed and have a remarkable position in the region and in the world. The Prime Minister wished that OV would continue to preserve Vietnamese language, cultural identity and Vietnamese traditions in family and community, especially with the young OV; thereby preserving close relationships with family and homeland.
Prime Minister required local authorities to always pay attention and facilitate OV to return to our country for working, cooperation, investment, trading and scientific and technological activities.
Prime Minister asked the State Committee for the OV to renovate their working activities for a closer connection with the OV, listen to their thoughts and wishes; well organize the annual Homeland Spring Program so that every year the OV could gather in Vietnam homeland to celebrate Tet in a joyful and warm atmosphere.
