The convoy of super-long and super-heavy trucks was forced to stop on Highway 19, the section through Gia Lai province by a group of people asking for “road fee”…
On the evening of November 2, Vietnam Global Transport JSC (headquartered in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) said that the company’s super-heavy vehicle fleet was being stopped by a group of people “asking for the construction fee of Highway 19” when arriving at Gia Lai province..
At 9 p.m. on the same day, Mr. Nguyen Anh Phuong – Branch Manager of Vietnam Global Transport JSC in Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh) called the Traffic News to say that the convoy has got stuck at the section of Highway 19 to Dak Po district (Gia Lai) for 2 days.
Mr. Phuong said, “The company has signed a transportation contract with the EPC contractor of Cho Long Wind Power Project (in Cho Long commune, Kong Chro district, Gia Lai) to transport 12 wind turbines for this project along the highway from Thi Vai port (Ba Ria – Vung Tau) to Kong Chro district (Gia Lai).
Currently, the company has managed to deliver 6 devices to the construction unit.
However, the remaining 6 propellers have not yet been delivered. When the convoy moved to the section of Dak Po Victory Monument, the junction of Highway 19 and Truong Son Dong Road, they were stopped by a group of pickup truck drivers, so they could not proceed further to the delivery point according to the contract.
When super-heavy vehicles were stopped on the side of the highway, it poses a potential risk of traffic accidents. Mr. Phuong said, a person called the phone number 098 2002xxx claiming to be Giao working at a logistics company based in Ho Chi Minh City and asked Mr. Phuong’s company to “share the money for road construction”.
“I asked the person claiming to be Giao to come to the police headquarter of the Dak Po district government to work this out instead of making unreasonable demands. However, this person did not show up, but gathered a group of thugs to stop us, causing traffic dangers on Highway 19″, Phuong shared.
The trucks getting stuck on Highway 19 caused traffic jam and disorder. In addition, the vehicles are behind the schedule for delivering equipment to the contractors.
Late at night on the same day (November 2), discussing with the Traffic News regarding the above incident, Mr. Nguyen Truong, Chairman of Dak Po District People’s Committee said that the district police force is currently ensuring traffic safety and grasping information about the incident. We will work with the district police to get more information.
Also on that night, talking with the Traffic News about the lacking of traffic safety on Highway 19 related to the convoy carrying wind power equipment, Mr. Phan Huu Hieu, Chief of staff of Gia Lai province’s Traffic Safety Committee, said that the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee had information on the case.
The incident happening on Highway 19 is very dangerous, putting the traffic safety at risk. On the morning of November 3, I will directly go to the construction site to check the incident and report the situation later,” said Mr. Hieu.
