Initial results
In order to contribute to improving the reliability and safety of electricity supply, beautifying the urban landscape, building technical infrastructure of electricity grids and communication lines according to modern urban standards, EVNHCMC has been accelerating the progress of undergrounding the grid system of Ho Chi Minh city.
Mr. Bui Trung Kien – Deputy Director of EVNHCMC – said that the underground electricity system and the compacting of communication lines have been started by the unit in cooperation with telecom operators for many years.
Accordingly, in the period 2016 – 2020, the unit has completed 143 projects of underground electrical network with a total quantity of 675km medium voltage grid; 1,160km low voltage grid and 34.5km 110kV high voltage grid. The rate of undergrounding medium voltage network in the whole city would increase from 32% by the end of 2015 to 45% by 2020 (the plan was 35%). Up to now, the underground network and city center communication lines have been basically completed.
Specifically, the rate of underground medium voltage network in District 1 and District 3 reached 98%, urban regions including districts 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, Phu Nhuan, Binh Thanh, Tan Binh, Tan Phu and Go Vap reached 60%. Meanwhile, the underground target of urban districts reached over 50%, which is a great effort of Ho Chi Minh City electricity industry.
According to EVNHCMC’s assessment, the completed projects of undergrounding power grid together with communication lines have brought about remarkable results in improving the urban beauty, creating a system of technical infrastructure of power grids and communication lines, creating grid technical infrastructure and communication lines according to modern urban standards, increasing opportunities to attract local socio-economic investment and development.
In particular, the electricity supply reliability of EVNHCMC has been improved year by year, specifically: SAIFI (the average number of power outages) gradually decreased from 6.72 times to 0.77 times in the period 2015 – 2019 (correspondingly decreasing by 88.54%); SAIDI (the average time of power outage) decreased from 720 minutes to 58.46 minutes from 2015 to 2019.
Beside the achieved results, Ho Chi Minh City electricity industry is also facing difficulties due to local characteristics. For example, many roads have narrow sidewalks, not enough space to arrange and install equipment. Accelerating the “speed” of undergrounding power grid
Mr. Bui Trung Kien added that, towards the goal of building technical infrastructure of electrical grids and communication lines according to modern urban standards, creating a favorable environment to attract investment and economic development – In the future, EVNHCMC will implement plans to accelerate the underground grid progress.
Specifically, EVNHCMC’s target of undergrounding power grid in the period of 2021-2025 will reach 500km of medium voltage grid, 800km of low voltage grid. In which, the annual implemented quantity is 100km of medium voltage grid, 160km of low voltage grid …
In order to speed up the progress, effectively deploy underground power grid projects, and upgrade Ho Chi Minh City to become more civilized and modern, ensuring urban beauty. EVNHCMC hopes to continue to receive the positive coordination from the related units. In particular, the support from the local government, the people and the community. By doing so, the undergrounding of power grids and communication lines can be improved, reducing stages of grid insecurity, improving transmission capacity, and enhancing electricity supply service quality for customers. At the same time, promoting local socio-economic development.
By 2025, the whole city will reach the underground rate of the medium voltage grid from 50% – 60%. In which, the rates of urban districts will be 80% to 90%, especially districts 1, 3, 5 will reach the rates of approximately 100%.
