Charity program: “Homeland in the heart”
Charity program: “Homeland in the heart” is a new program implemented by the Youth Union, Vietnam Television, “Homeland in the heart” will record the flag greeting at the country’s furthermost points, borders and islands… in the most special schools. It is a place where teachers and students sing together the song “Tien Quan ca” under the sacred flag, where there are memorable meetings with guests; where the flag greeting ceremonies happen in warm and solemn atmosphere…
Having travelled through lots of provinces and schools, the production team has countless stories to tell. Being accompanied by VTV in the broadcast at Nam Ty School, perhaps that is also one of the touching stories EHCMC is lucky to have the chance to witness and share.

Nam Ty is facing difficulties
As a part of Hua Thanh Primary School, which is more than 25 kilometers away from the center of Dien Bien Phu City, the road to Nam Ty has always been a concern of all teachers. Because of the long distance and road obstacles, they had to move early from Sunday afternoon. On rainy days, the rugged roads, potholes, and dangerous slopes, once hard to go, are now more slippery. Sometimes, the teachers’ cars tilted and slipped. For safety, they decided to walk and push the cars It is still 25km but the road today is probably farther than usual because it takes nearly 2 hours to travel. Minor accidents like falling off cars, bruising both arms and legs happen frequently.

All traffic problems will be nothing to the teachers if the students are diligent and eager to learn. But in Nam Ty, beside doing well in education, there are still many hardships to overcome so as to improve the education. In this year, Nam Ty school has welcomed 147 students, but 100% are from poor households. A great number of orphans have no caregivers, so many of them intend to drop out of school, or their families want them to quit school to work. In order for the students to be assured of going to school, teachers have also supported books, clothes, school supplies, food, noodles … through donation activities, directly asking for support from the schools in the developed regions, and even using their own money from at least a few million to more than tens of millions.

In Nam Ty, there are still many other difficulties facing the school teachers, for example, lack of drinking water and power shortage. In the dry season, each person has to carry a 2 – 5 liter can and walk to get water in the deep pools to use for daily habits and cooking; There are meals only including roasted peanuts because of prolonged rain without food, lack of facilities, sanitation, dark classrooms without electricity,… Overcoming countless obstacles the teachers here are still devoting their best to education in highlands, so that now 100% of Nam Ty’s students can graduate at the right age and attend school diligently; “Most of the children like to go to school and have knowledge to escape poverty”, as the village captain of Nam Ty B – Giang A Vang shared.

From now on, the classrooms will have more light, the school will have enough clean water for drinking and daily activities. One of the many challenges of school has been resolved. Hopefully the children will study hard, the teachers will always accompany the students, with the classes and with Nam Ty.

Despite being born from poor families, the children there are aware of the importance of learning. Everyone grows up, try to succeed in order to contribute to building the country in the future, and bring the knowledge of humanity, scientific and technical advances to their villages. It is also the belief and hope the teachers and the school have given them. The success of each student is the success of the teachers and also the pride of Saigon Gia Dinh Electric Joint Stock Company’s team, who managed to bring light to the northwest mountainous regions.
