{"id":3107,"date":"2019-07-02T14:54:13","date_gmt":"2019-07-02T14:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ehcmc.com.vn\/?p=3107"},"modified":"2020-06-19T02:44:58","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T02:44:58","slug":"solar-cells-generate-electricity-from-rainwater","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ehcmc.com.vn\/en\/solar-cells-generate-electricity-from-rainwater\/","title":{"rendered":"Solar cells generate electricity from rainwater"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Scientists are\ndeveloping a type of solar cells that can capture both solar energy and kinetic\nenergy from water, which means it can generate electricity from raindrops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the past\ndecade, solar battery systems have been used widely due to the increasingly\ncheaper installation costs, which have been 90% cheaper than in the beginning.\nThis is also the reason why solar power has become the cheapest type of electricity\nin many regions in the world. However, there still exists a hard-to-solve problem,\nwhich is the \u201cunstoppable decline\u201d in the performance of solar panels when it\nis cloudy. Due to this fact, researchers are trying to find ways to make solar cells\nproduce more electricity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Suzhou\nUniversity, China, scientists placed two layers of transparent polymers on the solar\npanels. When raindrops fall on these layers and roll down, the friction force\nwill produce static electricity. Therefore, this device can produce electricity\nday and night, as long as it is sunny or rainy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another group\nof researchers have also created a similar device for solar panels called nano\nfriction generator or Teng (triboelectric nanogenerator). The device has a much\nsimpler structure than the above-mentioned, but gives higher performance. This\nis the result of using one of the polymer layers as the electrode for both Teng\nand solar cells. Due to the special design, the Teng is very light. In the\nfuture, the team plans to apply this technology into mobile devices and flexible\nmaterials such as e-cloth. However, the efficiency of the output power needs to\nbe further improved before it is applied into practical use. A member of the\nresearch team said the project was progressing smoothly and promised to launch\nthe samples within the next 3 to 5 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/ehcmc.com.vn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/pin-mat-troi-tao-ra-dien-tu-nuoc-mua.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-779\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ehcmc.com.vn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/pin-mat-troi-tao-ra-dien-tu-nuoc-mua.jpg 650w, https:\/\/ehcmc.com.vn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/pin-mat-troi-tao-ra-dien-tu-nuoc-mua-400x266.jpg 400w, https:\/\/ehcmc.com.vn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/pin-mat-troi-tao-ra-dien-tu-nuoc-mua-430x286.jpg 430w, https:\/\/ehcmc.com.vn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/pin-mat-troi-tao-ra-dien-tu-nuoc-mua-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Several other Chinese scientists have also used Teng on solar cells to get wind energy.&nbsp;The top layer of the Teng is also grooved to help focus more light on the solar cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Varun Sivaram is a member of the US Diplomatic Council and the author of \u201cTaming the Sun\u201d: Innovations to Harness Solar Energy and Power the Planet &#8211; a new book published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) last month.&nbsp;Varun said, &#8220;The idea about \u200b\u200bthe Teng was extremely interesting.&nbsp;It is a hybrid device that allows the acquisition of kinetic energy from water without affecting the electricity production capacity of solar cells when it is sunny.&nbsp;Only one layer is needed for two tasks at the same time but it could collect more sunlight.&nbsp;Such a wonderful new technology.\u201d&nbsp;However, Varun also expressed his opinion that the amount of electricity generated from rainwater must increase significantly in order to have a distinct difference compared to the existing solar cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Keith Barnham from the Imperial College London said\nthat the Teng makes solar cells more compact and more efficient by collecting\nenergy from a variety of weather patterns.&nbsp;However, it is clear that wind\npower is the most potential source of energy for solar cells because there is\nalways wind whether it is sunny or rainy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, there are many other new and innovative features in\ndesigning solar cells, such as the use of inorganic perovskite as the\nproduction material to create flexibility and bring high efficiency, the use of\n&#8220;quantum dots&#8221;
